Well we have made it to St Pancras and the station is as busy as usual. The night train was great, the only disappointment was the absence of hot water in the shower at Paddington – it made for a bracing start to the day..
We have realised we have left our guide books at home! We will have to be a bit creative with our planning and navigation.
This year we are undertaking a rail based holiday to Italy and Spain.
We will start on the Cornish Riviera Sleeper to London, followed by a Eurostar trip to Paris. The rest of our stops will be Milan, Naples, Palermo, Syracuse, Messina, Rome, Barcelona, London and finally back to Penzance.
It’s not all trains as we will be travelling on two overnight ferries.
We have also pre-booked to see Leonardo’s Last Supper and The Vatican.
So if you want to follow our adventures we will start to blog on the 30th September.
And just like that we are home again.
The last three days of our trip flew past. As we sailed south the weather became milder, snow disappeared from all but the highest peaks and we saw more and more picturesque villages along the shoreline.

On Saturday we were up early and on deck to watch the ship cross the Arctic Circle at about 07.50. There is a sculpture marking the point and everyone was jostling for position to capture the moment.
