Where we are on our trip

Oxford Trip

Tuesday and Wednesday this week we went to Oxford to celebrate Izzy graduating from University and being 21 (big week!). As you can see from the photo’s we had a great time and we are both so proud of her. In fact,  we are proud of the whole family for everything they have achieved; especially mum!

We have also received the paperwork for our USA rail tour, New York to Vancouver via Chicago, Glacier National Park and Seattle. It looks like we are going to be busy.

All Most There!

On Friday, just a month by date until our departure, we booked the last few elements for our trip. We booked our flight from Dubai to Budapest and the hotels for our European rail journey home. We have booked three nights in Budapest, Vienna, Prague, Berlin and Cologne. Which just leaves the train tickets between those cities to be booked but we can’t do that until 3 months before we want to travel.

We have used Emirates for the flight and a website called RoutePerfect for the European hotels.

We had a visit yesterday from Pam & Steve from Haddenham. We had a tea at home and then went to the coast. They were blown away by the area around Avon Beach, Christchurch. Pam surprised Steve by saying she wouldn’t mind moving to an area like this; could have been an expensive visit! It was really great to see them.

We had a great weekend in Shaftesbury and caught up with some old friends. Mark and I had to watch the sport on Saturday, while the ladies went into town. We did not spend all our time in front of the TV, we visited two National Trust sites, Stourhead and Montecute. These are two fantastic places and well worth a visit if you are ever near them.

Yesterday we heard from Cunard about our voyage. We have received our tickets and instructions to be at the port at 15:00 on 17 July for embarkation. No news yet on what time we sail but as high tide is at 22:37 I expect it will be quite late. We have also received our tickets for the Princess cruise as well.

So it must be full steam ahead then!

We have had two more great days before we all head home tomorrow.

Thursday Margaret and Carl stayed at the cottage while we others went out. We headed to Truro where Yvette had her hair done and spent some time doing her own thing and exploring Truro by herself. Kim and I went off to see Sean,  a very good friend who was running an open day at his studio. We spent a couple of hours with him and then headed back. One of the highlights of going to see Sean (apart from seeing Sean himself and looking at his most recent paintings of course!) was crossing the River Fowey on the chain ferry! Back in Truro we met up with Yetti who was enjoying a lobster lunch and looking glamorous with her new hair do.

Today, we all had a bit of a lie-in and after breakfast went off to Penzance. We had a good look around and then headed to Marazion  for a spot of lunch at the Godolphin Arms hotel. The food was fantastic and the views from the restaurant were spectacular.  After lunch we headed back to the cottage for a bit of r and r!
