Syracuse

Thursday was earmarked for the journey from Palermo to Syracuse a six hour journey with a change in Messina. Our hotel in Palermo was very close to the station so our departure was very straight forward, except the train was running 10 minutes late and we had 10 minutes to make the connection in Messina. We got in touch with Byway by our dedicated WhatsApp customer service connection to check what would happen if we missed the next train. Hebe at Byway identified two later trains and promised to be on hand if we needed her to change our reservation, that took all the stress from the situation.

From Queenstown, we drove across to Dunedin on the east coast, taking a detour from the main road to visit a small, pretty, historic town called Clyde on the way. Dunedin, named after Edinburgh, is the oldest city in NZ, the drive was as scenic as ever, lakes, mountains, plains and vineyards, we are starting to get blasé about the wonderful scenery!! We stopped on our way to pick up some crisps and beer to enjoy while we watched the American election results come in, filled with hope and confidence Mark picked up a bottle of Sparkling wine to celebrate… more of that later! Vancouver with Boots

We are starting to get complaints that we aren’t posting often enough (!) so in an attempt to catch up, and before we lose our internet connection for a week here are our thoughts on Vancouver…

Wow, what a beautiful city. Vancouver is built on a peninsula between the Burrard Inlet and English Bay. Our hotel is on Denman Street in the West End, a block from Stanley Park and running almost North-South with water at each end – idyllic. Across the Inlet is North Vancouver with its three mountains, Cypress, Grouse Mountain and Mount Seymour, they are covered in forest and look fantastic against the clear blue skies.
