The last three days of our trip flew past. As we sailed south the weather became milder, snow disappeared from all but the highest peaks and we saw more and more picturesque villages along the shoreline.
On Saturday we were up early and on deck to watch the ship cross the Arctic Circle at about 07.50. There is a sculpture marking the point and everyone was jostling for position to capture the moment.
Our journey from Copenhagen to Oslo was in two parts, due to engineering works, just like home! The trip from Copenhagen to Gothenburg was going to involve changing trains four times and take several hours longer than usual. Our travel agents took pity on us and booked a bus connection which proved to be fast and comfortable.
We boarded The Island Princess at Canada Place and looked down from the deck to people watching from the spot where we had stood three days earlier. Well we have gone and done it and we are now on our way to New York. We decided not to buy the on-board internet package as we thought a week without emails and text messages would be more relaxing; so we are writing a bit each day and then we will post this on arrival in New York.
Our thoughts on crossing the Atlantic on Queen Mary 2, what a wonderful way to travel! Comfortable, civilised, no jet lag, what is not to like? We have seen pods of dolphins swimming alongside the ship, Mark spotted a whale (sorry Mia it disappeared to quickly to take a photograph) and we have marvelled at the mesmerizing ocean views which are truly breath-taking. What a fantastic way to start our trip.
