We have now settled in to our new basecamp in Dorset and are finalising the details for the early stages of our world trip. As with any major project it is always good practice to undertake a trial run to shake out any issues that might arise; so we are taking two trips over the next few weeks, one to Spain and one to Cornwall.
Ok, now that our house move is complete it’s time for us to get back to our trip planning. We have had some unwanted news re our original plans to travel back from Budapest by river spending two weeks cruising the Danube and the Rhine. Now all the brochures for the 2017 season are out we have discovered that the cruises do not start until the 1st April! This would mean extending the trip by about 3 weeks or going to plan B. Well we have taken another large step toward our trip. On Good Friday we moved from our home of 23 years and established a new basecamp in sunny Dorset.
It was with mixed emotions that we left our beautiful home, where we have been so happy. However we take lots of wonderful memories with us and the friendships we have made will survive a change of geography. Lots of our Cambridgeshire friends are threatening to come to Cornwall when we are settled.
We were contacted at the weekend by Audley Travel to discuss our choice of airline for a direct flight from Darwin to Bali. There are only two airlines that offer a direct flight so we chose the one with the best departure time, we are flying with Air Asia.
We also heard from Princess Cruises to remind us that we will need both USA & Canadian Visas for our trip with them.
It’s all starting to feel real!
Another piece of the jigsaw falls into place. We have confirmed the arrangements for our time in Australia.
We had already decided to spend two weeks in Melbourne, it is one of our favourite cities and after six weeks touring New Zealand it will be good to stay put for a while; a holiday from our holiday if you like. But Australia beckons and we don’t want to miss some of the sights we haven’t been able to see on previous visits.
We will leave Melbourne and drive the Great Ocean Road to Adelaide. We have allowed time to visit the Barossa Valley (cheers) and spend a couple of days on Kangaroo Island before we fly to Ayres Rock to explore the Red Centre. Uluru, Kings Canyon and Alice Springs are all on the agenda followed by a flight to Cairns to visit the Great Barrier Reef and Queensland Coast. Finally, just in time for Christmas we will head up to Darwin and take in a trip to Kakadu National Park and Katherine Gorge.
After all that I think we will be ready to make the short hop to Bali for the beaches and some spiritual refreshment.
We have been asked this week what we want in our sandwiches, for a trip we a doing in Hawaii in sept 2016.
Nothing like planning ahead!
Today we have booked the flight from Fairbanks to Anchorage. We can confirm we will be flying with Alaska Airlines for the 1:05hr flight.
This means we have now booked all the elements for the Alaska section of our trip!
